In this post we discuss when WordPress is the right choice for your website design.
WordPress is a content management system.

WordPress Content Management System
WordPress is a web content management system. It was originally created as a tool to publish blogs but has evolved to support publishing other web content, including more traditional websites, mailing lists and Internet forum, media galleries, membership sites, learning management systems, and online shops.

- Out of all the websites that use a known CMS, 43.2% of those sites use WordPress.
- WordPress had a 63.1% share of the global CMS market in 2023.
- It is estimated there are 38,000,000 live WordPress websites.
- When we look at the top 1 million sites based on traffic, 29.13% of those sites use WordPress open-source software.
- 28.41% of the top 100 thousand websites use WordPress and 27.79% of the top 10 thousand sites run on WordPress.
- WordPress is used by big brands like NASA, Time Magazine, Microsoft News, Taylor Swift, and more.
- The WordPress CMS market share grew from 55.3%-63.1% between 2011 and 2023, which is a 7.8% increase.
When to choose WordPress for your website
Because of its popularity, WordPress is well served by an active community of developers. Forums and how to websites. Therefore, it can be used for most websites.
There are some very simple brochure websites that may not change very often or company personnel are comfortable with editing HTML web pages where the choice of static HTML can be considered – see our Dial a Cab Rugby website or Doepke website for examples.
We recommend WordPress for websites where the content needs to kept up-to-date or updated regularly or there are specific required features such as e-commerce, membership or news. See these examples:
- Personal blogs. WordPress has its roots in personal blogging, and people across the web use it for that purpose to this day.
- Corporate blogs.
- Business portfolios.
- Business sites.
- Ecommerce stores.
- Charities.
- Club websites.
- News websites.
- Podcasts.
- Online CVs.
- Online directories.
- Advice and support websites.
- Information websites.
- Event websites.
- Link in bio pages.

If you do opt for a WordPress website then you also need to factor in resource for keeping it updated and regular maintenance whether it’s monthly, quarterly or annually.
